Asbestos Refurbishment and Demolition Survey

A refurbishment or demolition survey is required where the premises, or part of it, need to be upgraded, refurbished or demolished.

A Refurbishment & Demolition survey is characterised in HSG264 as a ‘Full Access Sampling and Identification Survey’. This type of survey is used to locate and describe, so far as is reasonably practicable, all asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in the building and will, by its nature, involve the partial destruction of the building’s fabric to gain access to all areas. A full sampling program is undertaken to identify possible ACMs and estimate the extent of ACMs reported. A Refurbishment survey should be undertaken in an unoccupied building.

Refurbishment and Demolition surveys are needed before any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. This type of survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all ACMs in the area where the refurbishment work will take place, or in the whole building if demolition is planned. These surveys are fully intrusive and gain access to all areas, including those which are difficult to reach.

Following a survey, we will produce a report which details the findings. Recommendations are made for further action required on-site, where necessary. If asbestos is discovered, our asbestos consultants can provide further services to assist in the appropriate management of asbestos risks, if required.
